North Stars swept by Bombers after crazy Saturday night affair

The Battlefords North Stars certainly had a much better start and a much better effort than in Friday’s 4-0 defeat to the Flin Flon Bombers, but they still saw the frozen moose leg hit the ice for a second time.

The unique tradition Bombers fans have during wins at the Whitney Forum continued as the Bombers beat the Stars 6-3.

Jacob Vockler scored a hat trick for the Bombers, while Cole Duperreault, Drew Kuzma and Zak Smith also scored for the Bombers.

Steven Kesslering, Holden Doell, and Dylan Esau scored for the North Stars. Michael Harroch made 43 saves on 49 shots.

In between the whistles, there was a ton of action as well. North Stars’ Matthew Henry threw his glove at Bombers assistant captain Matt Raymond after the buzzer sounded to end the second period. The two were jawing at each other as they were being escorted off the ice. Raymond appeared to wave Henry over for a fight, Henry obliged and dropped his stick but Raymond then skated away. Henry then threw his glove at Raymond as he was being restrained by two officials. Henry received two misconducts, resulting in an ejection from the game.

Then as time was winding down in the third period, the temperature between both benches rose as well. North Stars’ Ty Bahm and Bombers’ Brett Wieschorster leaned over the small divider between both benches and shoved each other. Bahm followed up the shoving match with a few benches and received a 10-minute misconduct. That altercation followed a spirited tilt as well between North Stars’ Zane Florence and Bombers’ Lucas Fry.

Both teams will meet at the Access Communications Centre again on Feb. 20, which should be another spirited tilt. Before then, the North Stars will play three more games on the road, Feb. 15 in Estevan against the Bruins, Feb. 16 in Weyburn against the Red Wings and Feb. 17 in Wilcox against the Notre Dame Hounds.
