Hawks back in the win column
The Nipawin Hawks snapped a four-game losing streak Sunday with a 4-3 shootout win over the Yorkton Terriers.
Looking to build off a strong effort against the Broncos on Friday despite a 2-1 loss, Nipawin felt a similar effort against the Terriers would earn the team their first win since Feb. 1 in Weyburn.
After Yorkton opened the scoring not even two minutes into the game, the Hawks clawed back to tie the game 1-1 courtesy of Alex Johnson’s seventh goal of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season. The Terriers restored their lead with a power play goal, but Braxton Buckberger also scored his seventh goal tying the game again before the first intermission.
Nipawin captain Cole Beamin put the Hawks ahead early in the second period with his fourth goal, but the Terriers would bite back tying the game in the third period with just under two minutes to play in regulation.
