Warrants issued, arrests following violent incidents in Meadow Lake

Meadow Lake RCMP are asking for public assistance in locating two suspects involved in three violent incidents that occurred over the weekend and have already resulted in the arrest of three people.

Thirty year-old Jerrico Lasas and 26-year-old Kayla Lasas from Waterhen Lake First Nation, 31-year-old Ronald Campbell from Buffalo Narrows all face numerous criminal charges, while 28-year-old Brian Maurice from Flying Dust First Nation (FDFN) and 24-year-old Chantal Roy from Meadow Lake have warrants out for their arrest.

Police first got a call on Feb. 11 of a man banging on the door of a residence on Sixth Avenue East, yelling that someone was going to shoot him. Furthers reports stated a vehicle had pulled up, a male exited and forced the man banging on the door into the vehicle with him, leaving the scene in an unknown direction.

Shortly after this incident, at approximately 8:25 p.m., RCMP received a report of an injured adult female seeking assistance at a residence on Second Street East in Meadow Lake, reportedly sporting serious injuries that included having three fingers cut off of one hand. Five minutes later, police got a call of a second injured adult female seeking assistance at a residence on FDFN. She reportedly also had what were reported to be serious injuries which included having two fingers cut off one hand.

Officers and local EMS attended the latter two residences and transported the two females to hospital for treatment. While conducting the investigation, police identified a suspected vehicle in the incident where the adult male was forcibly taken. Officers then located the vehicle on FDFN and subsequently arrested two individuals.

As a result of the investigation, all five individuals are jointly charged with:

• Kidnapping while using a prohibited firearm;
• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;
• Using a firearm in commission of an offence;
• Aggravated assault;
• Uttering threats.

Jerrico Lasas is also charged with failure to comply with a probation order, while Campbell also faces possession of a firearm, contrary to a court order. The pair, along with Kayla Lasas, made their first court appearance in Meadow Lake on Monday.

Roy, who’s also charged with failing to comply with a release order, is described as a 24-year-old female, standing 5-4 tall and weighing 130 pounds. She has black hair, brown eyes and sports a butterfly tattoo on her right wrist and a mother-holding-child tattoo on her left arm. She may be in Meadow Lake.

Maurice is described as a 28-year-old male, standing 5-8 tall and weighing 141 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He may be on the FDFN.

Communication critical to investigation

Investigators believe the three incidents involve local gangs and are related. S/Sgt. Ryan How, Meadow Lake RCMP Detachment Commander, thanked FDFN Security for helping identify the vehicle, as well as that Protection and Response Team that provided valuable assistance in securing the crime scenes

“This was a rapidly developing situation, [with] multiple crime scenes, two seriously-injured victims, and five suspects,” he said in a statement. “It means a lot to know you can rely on strong partnerships during serious incidents like this and I am grateful for their assistance.”

As the investigation continues, police are advising the public not to approach Maurice or Roy. Anyone with information on their whereabouts or these incidents, are urged to contact Meadow Lake RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
