Demo Derby to keep standalone weekend for summer 2022

Nothing says summertime like the bang and crash, and subsequent roar of applause that comes with the North Battleford Ag. Society’s annual Demo Derby.

The Agricultural Society has announced a set date for their 37th Annual Demolition Derby this summer, which will take place Aug. 27 at the North Battleford Exhibition Grounds.

Featuring a return of the minis derby and barrel racing events in addition to the full size demolition cars, this will be the second consecutive year the Demo Derby will have its own weekend separate from the annual Territorial Days Summer Exhibition.

Chair of the event, Greg Korpach said the success of last year’s derby and strong turnout has led to the opportunity to continue as its own standalone weekend this year.

“We had a really good event last year that was very successful,” Korpach said. “We had a full grandstands and a full house with great attendance and vendors, so we got some good feedback from the event that way and we’re going to try it again [as a standalone event] this year.”

Korpach added that in addition to a return of newer favorites such as the minis and barrel racing events, Battlefords Bent Rodz Car Club will also return with the Show ‘N Shine element of the weekend. He said there also remains the potential for a possible truck heat to be added to this year’s festivities, depending on registration numbers in the coming months.

“I’m hoping to have a full heat of [the trucks] signed up by about the beginning of June and then we can plan for adding that event in,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out and a full stands again, and hopefully a nice sunshiny day as the weather cooperates. Now that there’s been some great feedback and everyone kind of knows about it, we hope to have just as many people come out and check things out this year.”
