Pennydale Junction restaurant in Battleford now has new owners.

The landmark establishment is being taken over by Battleford residents Ash and Nicole Alam, so the business will continue to be locally owned and operated.

Ash, who is also the town’s CAO, says he and his wife plan to have the historic restaurant open for lunch and breakfast in addition to offering a dinner menu.

“We want to keep everybody employed here,” he told battlefordsNOW. “We’ll create more jobs for sure.”

He added they are looking forward to continuing the tradition in the community.

The news was announced at Monday’s town council meeting.

“The new owners are excited to purchase this historic restaurant and are seeking council’s blessings,” Michelle Tomanek, of Boyes Group Realty Inc., said when she visited council.

The Alams plan to offer the same full range of fine dining items, as well as some more specialty meats such as buffalo, venison and elk. Walleye and Northern Pike will also be added to the menu.

The new head chef has experience working at a four-star restaurant so will be a great attribute to Pennydale Junction.

The restaurant will be open under the new ownership starting March 31. Then, beginning mid May it will be open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Alams plan to have a grand opening celebration May 4, as the tentative date.

The current longtime owners Tom and Marilyn Tenetuik plan to retire after over 30 years in the business.

Town Coun. Shelley Boutin-Gervais congratulated the new owners as well as the Tenetuiks on their many successful years of business.

Coun. Kevin Russell commended the Alams for taking over the establishment, adding it is a staple in the community. He said the Tenetuiks were “huge supporters in this community,” and the community supported their establishment well.

Mayor Ames Leslie said he appreciated how the Alams embraced the community since moving here, and now are continuing a long-time local tradition.

“You saw an opportunity to keep something going forth in our community, so thank you for that,” he said. “And I’m looking forward to breakfast. It’s going to make me very happy.”
