The Border City is getting a new Family Resource Centre.

The province made the announcement this week for funding to create the centre in Lloydminster, along with two more in Weyburn and Swift Current. As part of the Canada-Saskatchewan Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, $645,00 is allocated in start-up funding with $215,000 going to each centre.

Under this agreement, Canada is investing approximately $68.5 million over four years to support access to high quality, inclusive, affordable and flexible child care in Saskatchewan. The total allocation for these centres is $645,000 in start-up funding with $215,000 going to each centre.

In a release, Families, Children and Social Development Minister Karina Gould said this is to help every child have the best start in life.

“These additional centres will allow more children and families from Saskatchewan to access high-quality, affordable, flexible and inclusive early learning and child care.”

The centre in the Border City will be developed in partnership with Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD), who will be responsible for leading a community planning team in that process. The planned opening is for Fall 2022.

Trisha Rawlake, LPSD Superintendent of Education, said in a statement to battlefordsNOW that the division is excited to be a partner in this initiative, which will have significant impact on the area.

“This center will serve as a community resource for all of our Lloydminster families with young children,” she said. “We are committed to bringing together the right partners in a concerted effort to support our youth in reaching their full potential.”

Once these additions are built, Saskatchewan will have a total of 15 centres.

The national investment in supporting access to high quality, inclusive, affordable and flexible child care in Saskatchewan is approximately $68.5 million over four years.
