A group of local trail riders wants to be the best, of the best, of the best, in western Canada.

After winning the Saskatchewan SledTown competition, the Hudson Bay Trail Riders are now looking to win the Western Canada SledTown Showdown.

The annual competition helps to promote the best snowmobile trails in Canada with communities in B.C., Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba taking part.

President of the Trail Riders, Clayton Sheptak said B.C. and Manitoba usually take the crown, but he believes Hudson Bay has a good chance of claiming the throne this year.

“We have over 682 kilometres of groomed trail. We have phenomenal warmup shacks, awesome volunteer help, and everything.”

The group is in the semi-finals of the competition against Swan Hills, Alta. Flin Flon, Man. and McBride, B.C. are in the other semi.

The winner is decided by online voting, and you can vote once a day from now until April 17.

Sheptak said he wants to get as many people voting as possible not just to support his club but all trail riders in the province.

“I wish anybody would win it from Saskatchewan. Last year, Nipawin beat us out, but then Nipawin lost to Swan River in the first round, and we lost to Flin Flon before. So, this year we want to try and change it, make it to the final against them and try and beat them. They are a very tough competitor.”

Win or lose, Sheptak said he’s grateful the local trail riders are getting attention adding that despite the change in season, they’re still able to hit the trails.

“We can still sled in Hudson Bay right now. You might have to trailer out to the trails to leave Hudson Bay, but our trails are still open as of right now.”

You can vote for Hudson Bay right now in the SledTown Showdown competition on its official website.
