Charges laid in Matthew Barker arrest

Charges have been laid following the arrest of Matthew Barker at a Winnipeg location on May 6.

Barker was wanted by RCMP in Nipawin, Tisdale, Hudson Bay, and Swan River, MB.

He was wanted on charges of dangerous operation of a conveyance, failure to stop while being pursued by a police officer and trafficking stolen property.

Officers located approximately 27 grams of methamphetamine in his possession along with a weapon and drug-related paraphernalia and following a search of a hotel room used by Barker also located several loaded handguns.

Matthew Barker was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled May 9, in Winnipeg on the following charges;

  • Two charges of unsafe storage of a firearm;
  • Two charges possession of a restricted firearm without license/ registration;
  • Two charges possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized;
  • Carrying concealed weapon;
  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine);
  • Five charges of fail to comply with release order condition.

RCMP continue to investigate.
