The Moose is coming back to Bellevue

A popular Indie music festival is coming back to Saskatchewan this summer.

MooseFest returns for its second year on August 6 at the Recreational Grounds in the hamlet of Bellevue, about 40 minutes south of Prince Albert.

The event is being organized by MooseFest Entertainment and Funky Moose Audio.

President Joel Gaudet couldn’t hold in his excitement as he talked about the event and why, to him, it’s more than just musicians on a stage, but about the fans coming together to share a common love for music.

“The friends that we have been able to make in the industry the last couple of years and the camaraderie of it, that’s what we’re excited to bring to this little Bellevue community here, to show nationwide, the love and admiration we have for the fans and the music and the artists.”

“It’s so much bigger than just a music festival. It’s so much bigger than having six bands come and play. It’s truly about the camaraderie and the friendship and the fans, music lovers, are a huge part of it. Those purchases are what helps make the event and the love and the community.”

Vice President, Mark Poppen added there was so much interest in this year’s MooseFest that they’re already planning for 2023.

“The amount of support that we are feeling, we’ve had so many bands approach us and say ‘can we still get in on 2022,’ and we already have to turn them down because we don’t want to bite off more than we can chew.”

“This year’s going to be bigger than last year and next year is going to be even bigger than this year. It’s amazing,” added Gaudet.

Poppen said last year’s event had only three bands and a supporting act. This year they’re welcoming a total of six bands, including Traitor’s Gate from Prince Albert.

“A band like Traitor’s Gate that does covers of Dio and Black Sabbath and Cream, they don’t have many opportunities to hit the main stage,” said Gaudet.

The other bands performing at this year’s MooseFest include Ex Ømerta and Northern Royals from Winnipeg, Saskatoon band W3APONS, and The Hourhand from Regina.

“MooseFest is to highlight artists and bands like that; Indie artists out there, people who just want to play Rock N’ Roll that don’t get the opportunity to do that,” said Gaudet, who added the music for MooseFest could be classified as radio rock, rock music that is currently trending on the radio.

“These are up and coming artists that are on the Canadian charts right now that I feel like nobody knows who they are,” said Gaudet. “Our purpose is to highlight these because this is the stuff our children is going to be growing up with.”

“These 20 and 30-year-old artists that are phenomenal at what they do and the creation of the arts they’re doing, I want my son growing up with that. I’m a huge fan of these guys, they’re awesome, humble people.”

Mark and Gaudet are also the hosts of The Sit Down Podcast, a show where the pair discuss music topics and have conversations with different artists, including those that will perform at MooseFest.

Tickets for MooseFest are available online and Mark and Joel said they highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance to prevent any delays in the festival due to lineups for tickets at the gate.
