Roughriders cancel practices until further notice

Saskatchewan Roughriders fans who were planning to head to Griffiths Stadium hoping to watch training camp got the bad news Monday morning.

The CFL team tweeted out that all practices are cancelled until further notice.

The CFL Players’ Association told players with seven teams not to report to training camp Sunday after the union and the league couldn’t reach a new collective bargaining agreement.

Members of the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Elks aren’t allowed to go on strike without 72 hours notice to their employer.

It’s the first strike in the CFL since 1974.

Some Roughriders players were at the University of Saskatchewan on Sunday to participate in some drills and to go for a run, but there wasn’t a formal practice — and there won’t be any in the near future, either.
