It took two periods for the floodgates to open in favour of the Prince Albert Northern Bears, but they sure did in the third period as the Bears pulled away from les Remparts du Richelieu from Quebec to win 9-4 on Tuesday. That evens the Bears’ 2022 Esso Cup record to 1-1, after Monday’s 6-2 defeat to the Durham West Lightning from Ontario.

The Bears dominated the game, as they had a 41-18 lead in shots after two periods but were locked in a 4-4 tie, before scoring five goals in the third period to pull away and win 9-4 on Tuesday, to even their 2022 Esso Cup record to 1-1.

Seven of the Bears’ goals came from just three of their players. Assistant captain Erin Kirkland scored a hat trick, while Julia Cey and Brooklin Fry both had two goals and an assist each. Sophia Zuck and Sasha Malenfant also scored goals for the Bears.

The Bears play the Fraser Valley Rush from B.C. at Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Rush are coming off a 2-0 shutout of the Notre Dame Hounds and are 2-0 to start the tournament.
