COVID levels rising in P.A. and North Battleford, though each continuing to trend in right direction

Prince Albert and North Battleford are seeing some positive trends when it comes to COVID-19 despite each seeing a recent increase in levels.

That’s according to researchers at the University of Saskatchewan who continue to study the two communities’ wastewater to determine how prevalent the virus is.

In P.A., levels rose by 95 per cent when compared to the previous week, though researchers note there’s been an overall decline in levels over the past six weeks.

As for North Battleford, the city saw a jump of nearly 162 per cent. However, the current viral load found in the wastewater is the third-lowest detected over the past 18 weeks.

Saskatoon, the third and final city included in the study, also saw a rise in levels, though much lower than P.A. and North Battleford.

The 20 per cent rise puts the current viral load at its fourth-lowest amount since the start of 2022.

Out of the three communities, P.A. is having the toughest time as the city is experiencing nearly triple the amount of levels being found in both North Battleford and Saskatoon.

Meanwhile, the Omicron BA.2 subvariant continues to be the dominant strain in each city, accounting for at least 95 per cent of all levels.
