What P.A. roads to avoid during construction season

May 25, 2022 | 5:00 PM

Construction season is underway in Prince Albert and some of the city’s major roads will soon be undergoing major work.

City crews will be digging up sections from seven of the busiest streets over the next few months, including Central Avenue and Sixth Avenue East.

The other five roads impacted are 16th Street West, 12th Street East, 24th Street East, Seventh Street East, and Fifth Avenue East.

Marcel Gareau, surface works manager for the City of P.A., told paNOW underground infrastructure needs to be fixed.

“They’re very old and breaking apart, so there’s a priority to repair those streets.”

As of May 25, 16th Street West is the only project currently underway. There’s no exact timeline on when the other projects will start, however, impacted residents will be given a head up at least 10 days before work starts.

As for how long each will last, Gareau noted they can only give a rough estimate.

“A typical project that’s about two blocks long could take anywhere between four to six weeks to complete.”

There are many factors that can delay a project with the most common being the weather.

Six of the projects will cover a two-block radius, while work on Fifth Avenue East will go from 24th Street East to 28th Street East.

Meanwhile, these aren’t the only roads having work done during the construction season.

Crews will be repaving sections on 25 streets. Since none are being dug up, crews will only give impacted residents three days’ notice before work officially starts.

Five of these projects are currently underway.

Whatever the project, the city is asking the public to follow all posted signage to ensure everyone’s safety.

More information can be found on the City of P.A.’s website.
