RCMP still searching for deceased woman’s family

Police are searching for the family of a 64-year-old woman who died last fall.

The RCMP said Brittany Blackwell-Yuzyk passed away in the Rural Municipality of Loon Lake on Oct. 23 and, despite a number of tips from the public, officers have not yet been able to locate any family members to inform them of her death.

The RCMP said it isn’t investigating the circumstances of Blackwell-Yuzyk’s death, and are just searching for any family members so they can be informed.

In a previous statement, Loon Lake RCMP Sgt. Earl Keewatin said it’s unusual for police to reach out to the public in a case like this, but they’ve exhausted all other options.

“We’ve made local inquiries, checked RCMP databases and asked community partners to share any information they can about Brittany,” Keewatin said. “We understand this is not the typical way to reach out to next of kin, but we are now asking the public to help us identify members of her family.”

Keewatin said the RCMP has received 16 tips so far, which revealed Blackwell-Yuzyk formerly lived in Ontario and changed her name from Kim Edith Avery-Yuzyk to Brittany Jayde Blackwell-Yuzyk in 2003.

The RCMP doesn’t have a photo of her.
