Stars goalie Schwab commits to Milwaukee School of Engineering

Goaltender Austin Schwab is headed back south of the border for the next chapter in his hockey career.

A product of Snohomish, Wash., USA., Schwab recently announced his commitment to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Raiders for the 2022-23 hockey season.

The recently-turned 21-year-old said he’s looking forward to returning to the States following his junior career, to continue his hockey journey at the post-secondary level.

“I’m really excited to continue my education and also be able to play hockey at a high level,” Schwab said. “It was a really good fit there when I went and visited, and they had what I wanted to take, so it made for just a great fit overall.”

In the classroom, Schwab plans to enroll in mechanical engineering.

Playing the better part of the last three seasons with the North Stars, Schwab opened his junior career with a 13-3-0 record through 16 games his rookie season in 2019-20, to go along with a 2.70 goals against average and .916 save percentage.

After the 2020-21 campaign was limited to just three games, he then opened the ’21-’22 season with the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League, prior to being re-acquired by the Stars in mid-January at the CJHL trade deadline.

Rejoining the team, Schwab picked up right where he left off, to post a 7-4-0 record with a 2.51 goals against average and .925 save percentage in 11 games down the stretch, earning SJHL Goaltender of the Week honours the final week of the regular season.

Head coach of the North Stars, Brayden Klimosko said he’s happy to see Schwab continue to pursue the game at the post-secondary level.

“I’m really excited for him,” Klimosko said. “I know he’s excited to go to the school he’s going to there, and [I am] looking forward that he’s perusing hockey at the next level after the season he had with us.”
