NBCHS students celebrate incoming summer with Compstock

Students took full advantage of the warm weather on Wednesday at North Battleford Comprehensive High School (NBCHS).

The morning and afternoon marked the return of Compstock, a festival style event put on by the Student Representative Council (SRC). Members of all grades took part in a variety of activities and contests, including egg throwing, volleyball, slip and slides, car shows for the loudest and best looking vehicles and more.

Vice principal Lindy Bell-Gatzke said it’s one of the school’s longest running traditions, beloved by both students and staff.

“I’ve been here for 22 years and it was going before then,” she said. “It’s one of those times we get to kick back and have fun by celebrating with students,” she said.

Other features included a dunk tank (with Principal Jay Nichol) and a blow-up obstacle course.

Bell-Gatzke added that Compstock dovetails into academic events. Like the rest of Living Sky School Division, NBCHS is just days and weeks away from graduation and award recognition ceremonies.

“We get to celebrate with the students, kick off to the end of the school year,” she said.

The event also has some life-building lessons for the SRC. One of its leaders, Sam Bullerwell, said it was an awesome group effort.

“I follow much of the direction the other leaders give,” he said. “We work together well.”

There’s also lessons in time-management and delegation.

“You learn so much about how to organize people to complete goals, working to give students something fun,” Bullerwell said.

He added that it feels good that they were able to deliver an event that the student body enjoyed.

“Super proud that all these students, when they leave will come away really thinking it was fun,” Bullerwell said.

“Really good participation and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”
