Four arrested during Meadow Lake property theft investigation

Jun 10, 2022 | 10:27 AM

At 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, Meadow Lake RCMP corrected a previous media release that stated the wrong name of a woman arrested in relation to a property theft investigation. This article has been edited to reflect that change.

Meadow Lake RCMP made multiple arrests related to property thefts in the area over the weekend.

After actively investigating several recent reports, the detachment received a call of a stolen side-by-side ATV on June 4. Members tracked it to a location south of Meadow Lake, where they made an arrest while recovering the vehicle.

Subsequent investigation with the assistance of Police Dog Services led to a rural property where another stolen ATV was recovered, as well as a three-quarter ton truck. The ATV and the truck had both been reported stolen from the Meadow Lake area within the last few weeks.

Following the execution of a search warrant, a significant amount of stolen industrial equipment was recovered. Primarily Milwaukee tool sets were seized, which are believed to have been stolen recently in Meadow Lake.

As a result of this work, 51-year-old Huber Allan (Al) Tourand and 40-year-old Dustin Caplette were charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Caplette has an additional charge of failing to comply with a previous release condition.

They both appeared in court on Thursday.

During the investigation, a vehicle encountered police on the property and fled after the occupants were questioned, but was located shortly after. Both 24-year-old Chantal Roy and 30-year-old Jonathan Martell are charged with resisting arrest and flight from police. At the time, Martell faces additional charges of operating a vehicle while prohibited and failing to comply with probation, while Roy was released to appear in court on July 18. This release occurred prior to the detachment learning Roy’s identity.

The investigation is ongoing and Meadow Lake RCMP will be contacting the owners to verify the stolen property and have it returned as soon as possible. They are also asking the public to ensure any thefts are reported and remind the public to record serial numbers of their property.

Anyone that may have had tools or industrial equipment stolen recently, or has information on another type of incident, can contact the Meadow Lake Detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
