The celebration of Indigenous culture continued in the Meadow Lake region Tuesday.

Flying Dust First Nation (FDFN) hosted a celebration on National Indigenous People’s Day. Hundreds of students from local schools made the trip to take in the experience.

A number of dignitaries were also on hand for the celebration, including Stanley Cup champion Dwight King, Mayor Merlin Seymour, Coun. Clay DeBray, musician Cody Montour and members of the FDFN and Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) leadership. Many of the speakers spoke about being proud of who you are.

In addition to hearing from the speakers, participants witnessed and participated in a number of different activities. Some of these included a mini powwow, live music, dancing, a pipe ceremony, teepee teachings and wagon rides around the track.
