Humboldt and Area Pride Network wrap up successful pride week

Jun 22, 2022 | 10:08 AM

There is a lot to be proud of this month for members of the Humboldt & Area Pride Network.

An eventful week took place to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

The events kicked off with the Foam Lake pride parade. A quote from Dr. Laura Stewart on the Foam Lake Pride Society’s Facebook page illustrates the importance of having a Pride celebration.

“In 71 countries around the world, it is still illegal to be gay. Queer youth are one and a half to three times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers.”

She continued on by saying it’s imperative to acknowledge those who paved the way for Pride celebrations to happen and those who are unable to live their lives authentically.

“We march for inclusivity. We march for diversity. We march for community. We march for love!”

The day concluded with a pride concert for everyone to enjoy.

Other events included a Pride flag raising, Pride paint night, drag show, youth bowling, story time and an inclusive tea.

Due to weather conditions, the Humboldt area will be doing their crosswalk painting Wednesday to help add extra colour to the community.
