Members of the Battlefords North Stars will be back out in the community this weekend, with street hockey sticks in-hand.

The team has partnered with Canadian Tire who are hosting their Jumpstart fundraiser Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Canadian Tire parking lot in North Battleford.

A chance for children and youth in the community to play street hockey with local North Stars’ players, the event will also include a balloon man, bouncy castle, face painting, food trucks, and draw prizes among the activities.

Marketing and office manager with the North Stars, Kennedy Schmidt said the event will also serve as the last chance for Stars’ fans to purchase their season tickets at the early-bird rate.

“This will be the last chance to get those early bird season ticket deals, play some street hockey with the boys until it’s hockey season, and see some of these other fun things Canadian Tire has planned, so it’s going to be a great family event,” she said.

The Jumpstart program was established in 2005, as a way to help kids overcome financial and accessibility barriers to sport and recreation and provide inclusive play for kids of all abilities. More about the program is available here.

Head coach of the North Stars, Brayden Klimosko said the team is happy to get out and support a good cause like Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart initiative and connect with community again this summer.

“We’ll have some of the boys out there, the staff with Kennedy, myself and Chilly (assistant coach, Garry Childerhose) will be out there, and hopefully we see some good weather, so we’re looking forward to it,” Klimosko said.
