Preston Faithful wins CPCA show in Wainwright

Jun 27, 2022 | 1:04 PM

Three tour stops in the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) continue to become more interesting.

Preston Faithful of Frog Lake, AB, came away with the aggregate victory in Wainwright over the weekend, posting a show total of 3:12.52. Faithful beat out St. Walburg’s Jamie Laboucane by less than half a second for the aggregate time and by just two one-hundredths of a second for the best time on Sunday.

This is his first win since taking the Meadow Lake title in 2021, a season where he finished ninth in the CPCA standings. 2022 CPCA champion Logan Gorst rounded out the top three for the weekend, followed by Duck Lake’s Luke Tournier and Todd Baptise of Red Pheasant Cree Nation.

As a result of the Wainwright show, Faithful has moved up to sixth in the CPCA standings, just ahead of DJ King. The top three, Gorst, Baptiste and Laboucane are separated by less than seven points, while the next five drivers are within 70 of first place.

Next up is a five-day competition in Onion Lake Cree Nation, which will run through Canada Day weekend. The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on June 29 in Onion Lake.
