It was championship weekend for the 11U North Battleford Beavers.

Each of the four local house teams from the age group in the community gathered together for their “World Series” tournament to wrap up the season, with Team Red taking home the championship prize.

Head coach with the Red Team, Mike George said they couldn’t have asked for a better weekend to cap off the season.

“The weather was beautiful and we had a really good turnout; all of our kids came and had lots of fun so it was a great way to end the year at their last tournament,” he said.

Held in North Battleford at the ball diamond behind Silvester Glass, the Red Team won both of their games en route to the championship, culminating with a come-from-behind win in their final game.

George said together with assistant coach, Nic Fransoo, they put an emphasis on teaching the fundamentals this season and keeping the game fun for the kids, which paid off.

“The kids worked hard and they learned a lot of little things about the game and how to work together as a team,” George said. “We really wanted to focus on catching ground balls and those little things, and we had a couple of big hits in the last inning for a comeback win in the bottom of the sixth, so it was just great to see the kids have a lot of fun out there.”
