Celebrating Canada Day in the Northeast

Celebrations for Canada Day are underway across the Northeast for the first time with no COVID restrictions since 2019.

For those in Melfort, there are plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy. The opening ceremony takes place at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens. Music, a barbecue, cake and family activities will follow.

For those wanting to cuddle up and watch the fireworks, the Melfort AG Society will be launching its display at 10:30 p.m.

Nipawin is inviting the public to spend Canada Day at the forestry museum. Demonstrations for the sawmill, flour mill, shingle mill, and rope making will take place. There will also be musical entertainment and a shuttle to take you to and from the grounds.

Tisdale is kicking off the day with a pancake breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and will have a fun-filled day of entertainment and food.

If you are wanting to enjoy some sunshine on the water, Struthers Lake has a jam-packed two-day celebration for people of all ages to enjoy.

Kipabiskua provincial park is celebrating the holiday on Saturday with a bottle drive. There will also be family activities, and a silent auction before ending the day with fireworks at dusk. Those wanting to get up early can enjoy a pancake breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Montgomery Hall.

To celebrate the first Canada Day without restrictions since 2019, participating provincial parks will be hosting a variety of activities beginning at 1:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Activities include floatie races, cake celebrations, and trivia.

Tobin Lake is encouraging people to visit the Resort Village as there will be a pancake breakfast, sandcastle building, horseshoe tournament, children’s activities, and fireworks.

Naicam is celebrating its 100-year anniversary starting on Canada Day. They recently installed a picnic table at Lake Charron to help people relax and enjoy the holiday.
