Tisdale receives nearly $50K from feds for new dog park

The Town of Tisdale is getting funding support from the Government of Canada for the construction of their Off-Leash Dog Park Project.

The Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) is allocating $49,500 which will be approximately 75 per cent of the total cost for the project, which is slated to be completed later this summer.

“We are very pleased to announce the opening of the Tisdale Dog Park which further expands our recreational opportunities to Tisdale and district residents,” said Councillor Mike Hill. “Thanks to the Canada Community Revitalization Fund for making our vision a reality.”

The CCRF is intended to help communities rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a two-year, $500 million national program for smaller infrastructure projects across Canada.

“Our government is making investments that help renew community infrastructure and create public gathering spaces for residents and visitors alike through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund,” said Daniel Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs. “Venues like the new Dog Park in Tisdale are providing dog lovers and their canine friends a great environment for socializing and enjoying the outdoors in their community.”

This project serves as a welcome addition to Tisdale’s outdoor recreation facilities. The Dog Park will be located behind the Northeast Healthplex on the northwest end of Tisdale. Dog owners can utilize the walking trail to access the Off-Leash Dog Park where they are welcome to bring their canine companions to run around “leash-free” and socialize with other dogs.

The Tisdale Kinsmen Club and the Kinette Club of Tisdale have also generously donated, with a total of $8,000 going towards benches and waste receptacles for the park. Donors will be publicly recognized once the project is completed.

Director of Parks and Recreation Lesley Thibault told northeastNOW how thankful she was for the support from the local organizations.

“It’s huge,” she said. “I can’t even list how many things they’ve supported in our community for the citizens and kids to enjoy. They’re never hesitant when you ask them to help support a project such as this. Without them, it definitely impacts what services we’re able to provide, so we’re extremely grateful that they are able to contribute to projects such as this.”
