Municipal survey seeks information about daycare availability

La Ronge council is seeking input from residents regarding the need for daycare facilities in the tri-communities.

The survey, which can be completed online until July 25, will assist in accessing the current and future needs for daycare levels in the area. It includes nine questions mostly aimed at people needing childcare services or those interested in operating such a facility.

The survey is available on the Town of La Ronge website under public notices.

Back in May, La Ronge council received a letter from local resident Jessica Green who was concerned about the lack of public daycares in the community. It noted her objective in approaching council was to make leadership aware of the issue, adding more parents in the tri-communities are having the same issue.

She said the waiting list for public daycare in La Ronge is one to two years.

At the time, council decided to out an expression of interest to local residents to see who is potentially interested in starting up a daycare, as well as look at ways at mitigating the lengthy process that can happen with a business that is necessary for discretionary uses.
