Beavers put season on the line in search of bounce-back Game 2

Jul 26, 2022 | 12:04 PM

For the third time this post-season, the North Battleford Beavers will enter play Tuesday night with their season on the line.

The senior baseball team will need a win to keep their North Sask River Baseball League (NSRBL) playoff run alive.

The team will be looking to bounce back from a 5-0 loss to the rival, Wilkie Brewers Monday night in Game 1 of the best-of-three semi-finals series. Game 2 shifts to Brewers’ territory for a 6:30 p.m. start at the Wilkie Reginal Park.

The Beavers have shown a penchant for strong bounce-back performances this season, a trend the team will hope to continue heading into their biggest game yet of the year.

After losing consecutive games just once over the course of the 13-game regular season, the Beavers showed a strong resolve as well in the playoff quarterfinals. There, they came back from a 1-0 series deficit to defeat the Unity Junior Cardinals with bang-bang wins in games two and three, outscoring the Cards by a combined 17-3 margin in the process.

Serving as the lone game on the schedule Tuesday, should the Beavers win, the team will force a third and deciding Game 3 back in North Battleford, Tuesday, Aug. 2, with the winner advancing to the NSRBL Finals.

In other semi-finals action, the top-seeded Macklin Lakers also fell in their opening game to the lower-seeded Standard Hill Lakers 6-2 Monday, with Game 2 of their series marking the first time the team has faced a ‘win to stay in’ scenario this year.

The second game of the all-Lakers showdown will be played at Standard Hill’s home diamond at Silver Lake, Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
