Brewers top Beavers to advance to NSRBL final

Jul 27, 2022 | 12:18 PM

It all came down to a single run Tuesday night, as the Wilkie Brewers punched their ticket to the NSBRL final.

The Brewers topped the North Battleford Beavers in Game 2 of their North Sask River Baseball League semi-finals series to take the best-of-three via 2-0 sweep and advance to the championship series.

The defending AA Tier II provincial champs, Wilkie advance to the final with a chance to compete for their first league championship since 2016. The team will play the winner of the other semis matchup between the Macklin Lakers and Standard Hill Lakers.

Standard Hill lead the ‘all-Lakers’ series 1-0, after taking a 6-2 victory over the league’s top seed in the opening game. Game 2 of the series will be played Wednesday night at Standard Hill’s home field at Silver Lake, with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.

NB Beavers

Despite the semi-finals defeat, it was a benchmark season for the North Battleford Beavers.

It marked the return of a single team for the community, for the first time since 2017, following the amalgamation of the Battlefords Trappers and Beavers’ teams prior to the year.

And while the end result may have been just short of a finals appearance, the team still managed to finish tied for the league’s best record over the course of the regular season at 10-3, losing consecutive games just once. The team’s .769 win percentage was their best in over a decade, dating back to pre-2010.
