North Battleford, Meadow Lake and the surrounding region will be well-represented when Team Saskatchewan takes to Niagara, Ont. for the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

Featuring nearly 380 of the top athletes from across the province from 70 different communities in nearly 20 sports, Saskatchewan’s team will compete against the elite from across Canada at the tournament.

Among those competing from the local area are Battleford’s Taryn Hannah, Wilkie’s Isaiah Mamer, and Meadow Lake’s Avery Pearson.

Hannah is coming off her first season of post-secondary volleyball with the Brandon University Bobcats, and will suit up for Team Saskatchewan’s women’s volleyball team. A veteran of the provincial program, Hannah has been involved with Team Sask. since the 15U level.

Mamer, who helped lead his McLurg Broncs senior volleyball team to a provincial gold medal during the school season, is a commit of the University of Saskatchewan, and will play for the men’s provincial team in Niagara. Mamer last competed with Team Sask at the Western Canada Summer Games in 2019.

Pearson is coming off a first-place finish at the Bell Outdoor Canadian National Track and Field Championships earlier this year, and took home four first-place finishes at the Canada West Championship in the 1000-metre and 600-metre races, and the 4×800-metre and 4×400-metre relays. She will suit up for Saskatchewan’s Athletics team.

In addition, some of the top coaches in the region have also been recognized with management roles. North Battleford’s Heidi Campbell will manage one of the basketball teams, and Joseph Gerlinsky will manage the sailing team, while Meadow Lake’s Christopher Brownrigg will coach wrestling.

The 2022 Canada Summer Games will take place Aug. 6-21 in Niagara, Ontario. Team Saskatchewan’s full roster for all sports can be found here.
