Rivers West names roster for U13 District Showcase

Softball will be front and center later this month as the U13 District Showcase is coming to the region in the Town of Battleford, Aug. 19–21.

Taking place at the Battleford Flats’ diamonds #1 and #2, the event will feature the top minor softball players in the age group from across Saskatchewan, regardless of the league tier or division they regularly play in.

Making up the district roster for Rivers West, will be four players from the Battlefords, three from Meadow Lake, three from Unity/Wilkie, and two from Kindersley. The full Roster is available below:

Camryn Humenny (Battlefords), Layla Russell (Battlefords), Brianna Schmunk (Battlefords), Mikayla Shepherd (Battlefords), Makenna Dufresne (Meadow Lake), Kenzi Hildebrand (Meadow Lake), Carys Hildebrand (Meadow Lake), Tylan Blanchette (Unity), Kira Purcell (Unity), Jazen Sittler (Wilkie), Brynn Torrens (Kindersley), and Hayden Hilbig (Kindersley).

Battlefords Minor Softball president, Darren Russell, who will coach the team, alongside Meadow Lake’s Davin Hildebrand, said it’s a big deal to be hosting the tournament.

“Hosting it here is huge,” Russell said. “We haven’t hosted anything like this for a long time and there’s going to be like 120 of the top players from all of Saskatchewan playing here that weekend, so it’s going to be really awesome.”

“There are some really talented athletes that are going to be here, and this is the biggest softball tournament we’ve had here in at least the last five years.”

The district showcase will begin the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 19, with round-robin games continuing throughout the day on Aug. 20, and the playoff rounds to cap the weekend, Aug. 21.
