North Stars travel to Kindersley in search of fourth straight win

Sep 7, 2022 | 2:09 PM

Less than 24 hours after the Battlefords North Stars took home a thrilling 4-3 OT win on home ice over the Kindersley Klippers Tuesday, the teams will return to pre-season action Wednesday night in Kindersley.

Marking the Stars’s fourth game of the pre-season, the team enters the action Wednesday with a perfect 3-0 midway through their exhibition schedule, looking to keep the ball rolling in the second half of their back-to-back with the Klippers.

Returning Stars forward, Evan Waldie, said the team is looking forward to the quick return to action with their nearest divisional foe.

“It’s a rivalry game so we’ll want to bring it,” Waldie said. “They bring it hard and fast so we’ll want to come right from the start of puck drop. They’re a rival opponent and they’re in our division, so it’s not bad to start the season with maybe a couple of big wins here and carry that momentum into the regular season.”

Head coach of the North Stars, Brayden Klimosko echoed that a quick start is key, after the team started a bit slow Tuesday, before ultimately turning it on in the comeback win.

“It took us a really long time to get going [Tuesday], but once we got going we were OK at times,” Klimosko said. “Kindersley worked hard, they came at us and really pressured us, but we were able to get our feet under us and score some timely goals.”

He said they’ll be looking to bring a bit more of that intensity early in Kindersley.

Scoring has not been a problem for the Stars through the first half of their pre-season schedule. Through their first three games, the Battlefords have scored 15 goals with 12 different players contributing at least a single.

Twenty-year-old veteran, Emmett Wurst said as the exhibition slate reaches its midway point, the team has been coming together nicely both on the ice and off.

“Obviously all the boys are still getting their legs under them a bit, but it’s nice to get some new chemistry, see some new faces in the room and get closer to the guys as we dial it in for the start of the regular season,” Wurst said.

Wednesday’s game in Kindersley will begin at 7:30 p.m., but will not be broadcast on the radio.
