North Stars open final weekend of pre-season in Lloyd

Sep 9, 2022 | 2:00 PM

Pre-season action continues for the Battlefords North Stars Friday, who will open their final weekend of exhibition play, with their first of two games against the Lloyd Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Taking place in Lloydminster, Friday’s game comes following the Stars’ first loss of the pre-season Wednesday, a 3-2 defeat in overtime to their rivals in Kindersley.

With a 3-0-1 record through their first four exhibition games, veteran forward Ty Bahm said the team is ready to go, looking to close things out with a strong performance this weekend, with the regular season start now just a week away.

“It’s really important these last couple, to get everything dialed in and make sure we’re prepared for the start of the regular season here,” Bahm said. “We’re feeling good and just got to come out tonight with a hard start, lay some body and just get right to it off the start.”

If the first half of the pre-season is any indication, the North Stars look to boast a deep attack offensively this year.

Difficult roster decisions will have to be made with 13 different players having contributed at least a single tally this pre-season, as the Stars have scored 18 goals through their first four games, for an average of 4.5 goals-per-game.

Defenceman Tanner Gold, who established himself as a staple in the team’s top-four on the blue line last year, in just his first season in the league, said he’s looking forward to another big weekend, and the season ahead for this year’s group.

“We’re now over halfway through pre-season here and the boys are starting to click a little better out there and we’re excited to get into it,” Gold said. “It’s very important this weekend, especially playing another new AJ[HL] team here. We’re excited and the boys are ready to go.”

Friday’s game in Lloydminster will begin at 7 p.m., but will not be on the radio.

The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcasts will begin on 1050 CJNB with the start of the regular season.
