Date for third La Ronge byelection set

Sep 14, 2022 | 4:32 PM

The date for another byelection is scheduled for Nov. 30.

The byelection is necessary because current councillors Joe Hordyski and Matthew Klassen are the only residents to submit their name for a mayoral byelection expected to occur Oct. 5.

Voting on Nov. 30 will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Town of La Ronge Council Chambers. Advance polls, if required, will be held Nov. 23 from noon to 7 p.m. at the municipal administrative office.

In accordance with the Local Government Elections Act, a person is deemed to have resigned from the office of councillor on the day before he or she is elected as mayor.

The byelection is estimated to cost $1,200 and take approximately 60 hours of administrative time.

This will mark the third byelection since the general election held in November 2020. The first byelection to replace the late Hugh Watt occurred in November 2021 and the second Oct. 5 byelection is to replace former mayor Colin Ratushniak who stepped down.
