Charges laid after woman injured in knife attack

A woman is in hospital after a knife attack on the Big River First Nation yesterday.

Eagle Chamakese, age 24, will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court tomorrow on charges of assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

RCMP said that the assault happened in a home on the reserve at about 5:40 pm. After the woman was stabbed and assaulted, the man also threatened other people in the house

He then ran into a nearby forested area but was found and arrested by police at about 7:00 pm the same day.

The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.

Chamakese is also charged with three counts of assault, four counts of uttering threats and one count of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both the Meadow Lake and Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services assisted in the investigation.
