Sep 24, 2022 | 4:35 PM

The Prince Albert Mintos started off the 2022-23 campaign strong Saturday afternoon, defeating the Swift Current Legionnaires 6-1 at the Art Hauser Centre.

Despite being outshot the entire game, the Mintos managed to score six times on just 20 shots compared to the Legionnaires one goal on 29 shots.

PA’s Logan Pickford and Konnor Watson both led the team in points on Saturday, Pickford scored twice while netting an assist and Watson did the opposite by scoring once and potting two assists.

Mintos Logan Beebe, Sam Grosso and Scott Mclean added their own goals in the contest, while Mclean, Owen Dyck, Raydr Wallington, Van Taylor, and Roper Blanchard collected assists of their own.

Swift Current’s Eric Hoiness scored the lone goal for the Legionnaires while Kade Stringer and Zach Reeder added assists on the play.

PA netminder Jayden Kraus made 31 stops in the win, helping the Mintos improve to 1-0-0-0 on the year.

Legionnaire starter Jacob Morris took the loss turning aside nine of 14 shots before being pulled in the second intermission. Backup Hunter Arntsen made six saves on seven shots in the third as Swift Current falls to 0-1-0-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

PA wasted no time getting on the scoreboard scoring just over 90 seconds in. Pickford found Beebe in close who put it past Morris to give the Mintos an early lead.

The Mintos added to the lead in the dying seconds of the frame while on the powerplay. Good puck movement by PA led to a Watson goal as they led 2-0 after one.

The floodgates burst open for the green and gold in the second as they scored three unanswered in the period with Pickford lighting the lamp twice and Grosso adding another in the period.

The Legionnaires managed to squeak one past the Mintos goalie to break the ice for Swift Current.

Unfortunately for Swift, that’s as close as they got.

PA added another goal late in the third to seal the deal as the Mintos defeated the Swift Current Legionnaires 6-1.

Both teams will be back in action Sunday afternoon for a rematch of today’s contest. Puck drop is at 1:30pm.
