Cultures collide at Tapestrama 2022 in Prince Albert

The Tapestrama Cultural Festival was back in Prince Albert over the weekend where hundreds of people flocked to Carlton High School to celebrate the wide variety of cultures our city has to offer.

This year’s festival was held in the cafetorium of Carlton High School which had live performances from cultures across the globe as well as foods from Ukrainian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Nigerian, Jamaican, and Chinese backgrounds.

Member of the Prince Albert Multicultural Council Sylvie Charpentier said this event gives foreigners the opportunity to celebrate their culture in a place away from home.

“Having an event like this one is very important,” she said. “People have to come here and adapt to us, but this is a chance for them to share their own culture.”

Various cultural acts and dances were on display while clothing items were also up for grabs from countries like Nigeria and China.

Charpentier added that this year’s festival was one of the best ones in recent years.

“We had Ukrainian dancers, Chinese dragon dancers, hoop dancers, there was something for everyone,” she said. “This year was a really cool and wonderful lineup.”

For those interested that couldn’t attend the in-person event, all the acts were live-streamed on Tapestrama’s Facebook page. Replays of the event are also available on Facebook.
