Shopping cart policy, arenas, and gender equity on Monday agenda

Sep 26, 2022 | 8:00 AM

One of the things council will discuss at Monday’s meeting is a proposal by Councillor Charlene Miller to have city staff store stray shopping carts so businesses have a place to pick them up.

Miller’s proposal would have staff take carts that are found to the City Yards for collection by the owners.

Council will also discuss a proposal by Councillor Terra Lennox-Zepp to review the policies that guide how parks and streets are named and change them to “enable diversity and gender equity”.

Lennox-Zepp expressed concern during the discussions over naming parks for veterans that only one female was named in those changes.

A decision on whether to have all of council be the steering committee for the arenas and aquatic centre project is on the agenda.

As it is now, the committee includes three councillors, the Mayor and the City manager plus Gord Broda and Russ Clunie.

Mayor Greg Dionne would remain the chairperson of the committee.
