Prince Albert man aims to be last person standing in creepy contest

Prince Albert’s Trevor Phillip believes if he were to be in a horror movie, he would have the smarts and genre know-how to survive the killer and win the prize.

The 51-year-old, self-proclaimed introvert, is in the running for an online competition called Face of Horror.

“I’ve always seemed to have good luck on Friday the 13th,” he joked.

The winner of the online contest receives $13,000; a walk-on role in an independent film; a two-night stay at Buffalo Bill’s house (the location chosen for the Silence of the Lambs movie); and will appear in a photo shoot with Kane Lodder, the man who played Jason in the Friday the 13th movies.

Admitting to being a big fan of movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street or more recently the Annabelle series, Phillip said he was also a big fan of the monster movies such as Dracula or Frankenstein.

“I guess it’s always been that good versus evil fight that I kind of watched them for,” he said.

When entering, Phillip was given the option of a variety of different characters to portray and chose the one who stays out of trouble and makes it to the end. (Facebook/ Trevor Phillip)

Philip is currently fifth in his group and the voting for the top 10 ends on Thursday. The contest winner will be decided in November.

If he were to win, Philip would be interviewed for Rue Morgue magazine and is thinking he would explain his philosophical take on the Jason movies and how the villain character is a metaphor for sin.

“In the movies they have sex, they do drugs and then they get killed, so the sin catches up to them,” he said. “The only way you’re gonna survive is basically facing it and doing your best to overcome it.”

With respect to the cash prize, Philip said he would pay for his kids’ tuition at university and donate some back to his church.

“And if there’s anything left over, my new love recently has been board games so I’ve been getting a collection there,” he said.

Money raised from the online contest goes to help the B+ Foundation, an organization that provides financial assistance to families, fund childhood cancer research, and bring awareness to the fight against childhood cancer.
