Bears drop game one in weekend set vs. Stars

PRINCE ALBERT – The Prince Albert Northern Bears failed to get on the board on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Saskatoon Stars 3-0 at the Art Hauser Centre.

Saskatoon’s physical style played heavily into there victory on Saturday with Stars players throwing their bodies around while giving the Bears zero room to breathe, forcing PA turnovers and penalties.

Sage Babey led the way for the Stars, netting two goals in the contest. Avery Barrios added one of her own late in the game while Kolbee Ashe, Rachel Pavlove, Ireland Stein, and Madison Buziak each had assists.

Bears netminder Brooke Archer made 25 saves and took the loss on Saturday as PA falls to 0-2-0-0 on the campaign.

Stars goalie Tora Ward was flawless, stopping all 26 shots she faces as Saskatoon improves to 1-0-0-0 on the year.

A scoreless first period led to the Stars getting on the board first midway through the second. Sage Babey took a feed from Kolbee Ashe to put Saskatoon up 1-0 going into the third period.

Stars’ Avery Bairos potted her first of the season while Babey added one more in the third to ice it for Saskatoon as the Stars took game one of the two game weekend series, 3-0.

The Bears and Stars will rematch on Sunday afternoon at the Art Hauser Centre to close out the weekend set.
