Raiders pick up forward Gould from Tri-City

After making a move to bolster their forward corps, the Prince Albert Raiders staff could have put their feet up and called it a day on the trade front. Instead, they went out and added another young forward to their group.

The Raiders announced a second trade today, bringing in forward Tanner Gould from the Tri-City Americans in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 prospects draft. Gould is a 2005-born forward from Calgary.

“Tanner is a guy we think can support the 2005 age group,” Raiders GM Curtis Hunt said. “ He’s a young player that we think has a knack for scoring, can make plays as well as score goals. He’s still a young player and there’s still development for him, but he’s also a guy that comes with a high compete.”

Hunt also pointed out Gould has a knack for getting under the skin of his opponents. That, coupled with his puck skills, should make him a valuable piece up front.

“A guy that can come in and maybe find a little scoring touch and provide a little bit of support to our offence” Hunt said. “He’s a young enough player that, appreciating the fact that it does take time in our league, and it is an older league, he starts as a young Raider and grows and develops into that player.”

Offence has been a little slower to come for Gould but it’s not like it hasn’t been there at all. He had two goals and four assists in 24 games last season. His numbers leading up to the early stages of his WHL career have been excellent, and were part of the reason he was a third-round pick in 2020. Like many players from that age group, he lost most of his 2020/21 season due to the pandemic.

“It’s so unfair to evaluate those kids based on a lost season,” Hunt said. “We were lucky in our league, we were able to put together a cohort and play in the bubble so the players that actually played at that young age didn’t lose that year, but a lot of those kids that were 15 and 16 years old, that’s a big hole in their development. But it’s not something they can’t catch up on.”

Hunt added while their other acquisition, Carter Anderson would be able to jump into the lineup right away, the process for bringing Gould over to Prince Albert from Tri-City might take a little more time.
