The John Paul II Collegiate senior and junior boys volleyball teams will return to action this weekend, both looking to build on the momentum of a gold medal their last time on the court.

Senior boys Crusaders

The senior boys are coming off a gold medal at their home tournament prior to the long weekend, where the team went undefeated. The senior boys won 18-straight sets on their way to the top of the podium.

JPII defeated Lloyd Comprehensive’s ‘A’ team 25-22 and 25-9 in the final for the gold, their third medal of the season, and first gold. Head coach Shelly Fransoo said a key to the team’s success has been their strength throughout the lineup.

“It was truly a team effort, we were able to get everyone on the court multiple times, so that’s always nice as a coach and definitely gives ownership to everyone on the team as a true team win,” she said.

The senior boys will return to play this weekend at P.A. Carlton.

Junior boys Crusaders

The junior boys are coming off a gold medal at North Battleford Comprehensive High School, which saw the team go undefeated through their tournament as well, defeating Wilkie in straight sets in the finals.

Serving as the junior Crusaders’ second gold medal of the season, head coach of the team, Janet Benoit said she’s liked what the team has shown through the early part of the season.

“The team is playing hard and [we’re] looking forward to conferences and hopefully districts,” Benoit said.

The junior boys will also return to action this weekend for back-to-back tournaments Friday in Unity and Saturday at home at JPII.
