First-ever Festival of Frights to occur in Humboldt

Oct 12, 2022 | 3:46 PM

Humboldt Big Brothers Big Sisters will be hosting their first-ever Festival of Frights a total of five times throughout the rest of the month.

The event is a way to celebrate people’s love of Halloween, as well as raise funds for their agency.

Development Coordinator Jodie Hergott told northeastNOW they’re anticipating hundreds of people to attend.

“We’re expecting, hopefully, to touch on the several 100 patrons over the five days and really make this a signature event for our agency. Something that we can deliver to the community, every year, put into our budget, and be able to count on the proceeds to help keep us making matches.”

And with this being the first go around for the organization, some difficulties are expected.

According to Hergott, however, they believe they can overcome them as citizens already seem to be buzzing.

“We would love this to become a pillar for our fundraising budget. It’s a few weekends in the month of October and something that the community seems to be really embracing. It would be really great if this event is super successful and we can continue to deliver it for years to come.”

October 14, 15, 21, 22, and 28 are the set dates for the festivities. Each day will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 10 p.m., all at the Humboldt Vintage Club.

The Vintage Club is a large part of the three-weekend ordeal Not only have they donated their facility, but have ‘also provided volunteers, just like the city.

“They’re very gracious about hosting our agency, they believe in what we’re doing, and it was a natural sponsorship. They have been so very accommodating to us and they’re excited to have a new event happening at their location. We are just really thrilled to be working with them.”

The festival will cost $15 per person (cash only) and attendees must be 12 years of age or older.

Hergott added that with 21 children currently on their waitlist, they are thankful for anyone and everyone who helps them reach as many kids as possible.

“The actors, volunteers, and the various members of the community have stepped forward and let us know that they enjoy being part of Halloween, and maybe some of them really enjoy scaring people. We’re just thrilled with the response that we’re getting from the community, as it tells us that this is a great event for the community and the area.”
