PRINCE ALBERT, SK – Abinet Klassen played the role of overtime hero on Sunday afternoon, helping the Prince Albert Mintos topple the Notre Dame Hounds 4-3.

The win snaps a three-game losing skid for the green and gold after going 0-3 on their recent road trip.

Klassen alongside Scott McLean both had a goal and an assist in the contest, while Carson Olsen and Konnor Watson each scored once. Will Whitter led the assists for PA with two while Owen Dyck had one.

For the Hounds, it was Antoine Lavigne, Johnny Lopez, and Joby Baumuller each found twine for Notre Dame. Lavigne and Lopez also had assists on the night, while Brogan Young, Josh Gamble, Gabe Bugeaud, and Carter Hynes each had helpers.

Brady Holtvogt was a wall for the Mintos, stopping 33 shots in the win as PA improves to 4-3-0-0 on the campaign.

Hounds netminder Oliver Tuchenhagen made 29 saves as Notre Dame falls to 5-1-0-1 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The score was tied after the first period, but there weren’t zeros on the board with both teams managing to find the back of the net.

Olsen got the party started for the Mintos, scoring midway through the period on a nifty little move. But the Hounds would also light the lamp with Lavigne potting one of his own.

It was the same kind of story in the second with both teams staying tied after the frame. However instead of one goal each, it was two.

Lopez added a marker for Notre Dame early in the period with the Hounds leading for majority of the second. But tides would quickly shift and PA scored twice in two minutes thanks to efforts from McLean and Watson. The Hounds added another in the dying minutes as the game was deadlocked at three going into the third.

The third period didn’t solve the tie so we went to overtime.

In the dying seconds of OT, some miscommunication for the Hounds ended up costing them the game. Klassen picked up the loose puck at centre ice and walked in on a breakaway. He made no mistake going far side on Tuchenhagen as the Mintos topple the Notre Dame Hounds, 4-3 in overtime.

PA is back at home for their next bout where they’ll play host to the Saskatoon Blazers on Wednesday night.
