Rebels hold Raiders off scoreboard to win tenth straight

RED DEER, AB – The Red Deer Rebels blanked the Prince Albert Raiders 3-0 on Saturday night to make it ten wins in a row to open the new season.

All of the goals that Red Deer scored came while on the powerplay courtesy of tallies from Jayden Grubbe, Jace Isley, and Jhett Larson. Isley also added an assist in the game while Frantisek Formanek had two helpers and Kalan Lind, Christoffer Sedoff, and Ollie Josephson each had one.

Rhett Stoesser stopped all 23 shots he faced to pick up his first career WHL shutout.

Tikhon Chaika was between the pipes for PA where he made 28 saves as the Raiders now fall to 3-7-2-0 on the campaign.

The Raiders found themselves trailing after the first period when the Rebels got on the powerplay. Grubbe got the puck at the blue line, walked in and snapped a shot past Chaika to give Red Deer the 1-0 lead.

Red Deer continued to hold PA off the board while managing to extend their own lead. The Rebels scored two more powerplay goals on very similar plays. Both Isley and Larson followed up rebounds to triple the lead after two.

The score remained the same through the final frame as neither team could find the back of the net, and the Red Deer Rebels shutout the Prince Albert Raiders 3-0.

The Raiders wrap up there 3-in-3 weekend at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome taking on the Calgary Hitmen.
