PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Prince Albert Mintos got the win in front of the home crowd on Wednesday night, narrowly edging the Battlefords Stars 3-2 at the Art Hauser Centre.

Logan Pickford was the hero for the Mintos, scoring two goals including the game-winner in the dying minutes of the game.

Caden Dunn also lit the lamp for the green and gold on Wednesday, while Konnor Watson, Van Taylor, Abinet Klassen, and Raydr Wallington each had helpers.

For the Stars, Treycen Wuttunee and Cohen Noreikat were the goal scorers while Tyce Penrod and Jesse Borschneck were the assist getters.

Jayden Kraus was credited with the win for PA, stopping 23 shots to the Mintos improve to 5-5-0-1 on the year.

Matthew Ofukany made 24 saves between the pipes for Battlefords where the Stars now fall to 3-9-0-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Mintos came out of the gates hot, spending majority of the time in the Stars end getting off plenty of scoring chances.

But PA wouldn’t score first. Battlefords broke the ice early in the contest with Wuttunee finding twine just two minutes in.

The lead lasted until the late minutes of the period when the Mintos got on the board. Dunn fired a shot from the slot the beat the Stars netminder to tie it up. 35 seconds later and PA had the lead. Pickford capitalized off a defensive turnover from Battlefords and made no mistake going upstairs to give the Mintos the lead after one.

The second was a bit more evenly matched than the first but the Stars would eventually score to tie it up. Borschneck fed Noreikat on the two-on-one to pull Battlefords back to even going into the third.

But despite their best efforts, Battlefords just couldn’t get it done. Pickford managed to get himself on a partial breakaway and scored his second of the night to seal the deal late in the third, and to put the Mintos back on track with the 3-2 win.

The Mintos are back on the road for their next matchup where they’ll take on the Swift Current Legionnaires this weekend.
