When it comes to Smile Cookies, Prince Albert delivers.

Cheryl Sander, who owns two of the four local Tim Hortons, said the amount of support was amazing.

“Smile Cookies across Canada are actually up 21 per cent. The amount of cookies we sold this year was unbelievable,” she said.

In Prince Albert, $23,051 was raised from selling the cookies, which went for $1 each.

“That’s a lot of cookies and your hand gets really sore when you’re decorating them,” she said. “23,000 cookies, that’s insane and that’s awesome.”

For the final year, the money raised will go to the Rose Garden Hospice, which has reached the goal it set for construction.

This is the third year Smile Cookie funds went to the hospice effort.

Sander said she has some personal connections that led her to see the need for hospice services in the city.

“We chose it because it kind of hit home to me,” she said. “My mother had cancer. She’s now in remission, which is wonderful, but I was that person going into the hospital. I always thought it would be nice to just have a warm environment, especially in those last days or weeks of someone’s life.”

According to the Hospice’s social media page, the building has reached the stage where the roof, siding and windows have been installed and crews are framing interior walls.
