Bears edge league-best Wildcats to get back into win column

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Prince Albert Northern Bears got their second win of the season on Saturday afternoon, toppling the Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats 3-1 at the Art Hauser Centre.

Julia Cey and Jacquelyne Chief led the scoresheet in the contest, where Cey had a goal and an assist while Chief had two helpers. Sasha Malenfant and Claudia Lammers also scored for the Bears while Hannah Guttormson, Jazlyn Petreman, Kelsey Ledoux, and Tristyn Endicott each collected assists.

For Swift Current, Caitlyn Perlinger was the lone point-getter for the Wildcats.

Brooke Archer made 35 saves in the win for PA as the Bears improve to 2-6-0-0 on the campaign.

Karlee Lehner was between the pipes for the Wildcats where she made 28 stops as Swift Current falls to 5-3-0-0 on the year.

The Bears opened the scoring midway through the first when Malenfant scored her third of the season to put PA up.

Prince Albert’s lead wouldn’t last long into the second however, when Perlinger capitalized on a Bears turnover and sniped it just over the glove of Archer to tie the game at one.

The Bears regained the lead in the dying minutes of the game while on the powerplay when Cey found the back of the net to put PA up going into the third.

Lammers added an empty-netter in the dying seconds of the game for PA as the Bears outlasted the Wildcats, 3-1.

PA is back at home for their next contest where they’ll welcome the Saskatoon Stars to the Art Hauser Centre on Nov. 10.
