ML RCMP lay several firearms charges after an incident on Canoe Lake Cree Nation

Six people are facing a total of 86 charges after a series of incidents on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation and Meadow Lake. In one of the incidents, a man suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries after being assaulted.

RCMP say around 9 a.m. on Oct. 26, they received multiple reports of individuals with firearms at a residence on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation. Police responded right away but the people had already left in a sport utility vehicle (SUV). Nobody at the residence reported being injured.

Later in the morning, RCMP in Meadow Lake saw an SUV and as they approached it, they noticed a firearm. Police detained the vehicle’s occupants while they conducted a search. RCMP found three modified firearms, ammunition and a small amount of methamphetamine. Two of the guns were loaded.

Six people were arrested and together, they face a total of 86 charges including dozens of firearms-related charges.

Just before 11 a.m., police were told about an injured man at the Meadow Lake Hospital. After further investigation, police determined the man was assaulted at a residence on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation. The man has serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police believe the assault and the arrests in Meadow Lake are connected.
