Mintos split weekend series with Legionnaires

SWIFT CURRENT, SK – The Prince Albert Mintos went 1-for-2 this past weekend, splitting the weekend set with the Swift Current Legionnaires at the Credit Union iPlex.

Game one was on Saturday night where the Mintos won 4-3 in thrilling fashion.

PA trailed 2-0 going into the second period when Sam Grosso scored his second of the year to cut the deficit to one going into the third.

Carter Cole got in on the action midway through the final frame to tie the game with 13 minutes to go.

Swift Current had other plans however, scoring 34 seconds later to regain the lead. But PA refused to go down without a fight. Will Whitter netted his first in the league with just over eight minutes to go to pull the Mintos back to even.

And in the dying second of the game, Scott McLean’s shot found twine with just three seconds to go to steal the win from the Legionnaires.

Brady Holtvogt was between the pipes for PA in Saturday’s win, stopping 23 shots. As for Swift Current, Jacob Morris managed 15 saves.

Game two got underway on Sunday afternoon which saw the Legionnaires blank the Mintos, 3-0.

Cobe Perlinger got Swift Current’s opening goal in the first followed by a long stretch of gameplay with no scoring. It wasn’t until late in the third where the Legionnaires got another. Jace Egland scored on the powerplay with three minutes to go, then added an empty net goal a short time later to ice it for Swift Current.

Mintos netminder Jayden Kraus was in for game two where he saved 26 shots. Legionnaires goalie Berney Weston stopped 30 shots en route to his first career shutout victory.

After this weekend’s set of games, the Mintos hold a 6-6-1-0 record this season. PA is back in action on Saturday night where they’ll be in Warman to take on the Wildcats for the first time this season.
