Melfort hosts over 100 kin members from across the province

The Melfort Kinsmen and Kinettes recently teamed up to host roughly 140 kin members from across the province, for their annual fall leadership conference.

Everyone gathered at the Kerry Vickar Centre to participate in speeches, information and socializing.

“We just get to welcome local delegates to our community, come together and learn more about how to serve our community’s greatest needs, the best way that we can,” Melfort Kinette president Shannon Marshall said.

It also provided members to learn about other communities, their fundraising events and their initiatives.

Marshall told northeastNOW it was an honour to have everyone in her city.

“It’s pretty awesome to have all these people come right to our community, we get to show off the best of what Melfort has, to the people that work for or volunteer for the great organization that we support,” she said.

Some initiatives included the blood donor clinic for Canada, cystic fibrosis and TeleMiracle.

As for the conference, it changes locations every year, so it might not be in Melfort again for a little while.

With that in mind, Marshall added they had to take extra advantage of this year.

“It kind of breathes some new life into our committee and organizations. When you come to conferences like this, that sells you on the fact that this is definitely an organization you want to be a part of. The good things that we do, the awesome initiatives that we support, and how we come together to do that, the energy is just indescribable,” she said.

For 35 delegates at the event, this was their first conference ever. It was also the first one since 2019, without any restrictions.

Marshall explained that added a bit of energy to the air, as people were happy to be back, alongside some new members.

“To really serve your communities, there’s a lot of really good energy to bring all these people together for anybody that wants to be part of kin, that’s unsure. Everybody’s feeling a little bit more comfortable together, a little bit easier to kind of do things and so, I think that really showed in the phenomenal feedback that we had. All the people that came to the community, got together and supported the efforts that we do,” she said.
