Melfort hosting ‘What is Rotary Day’

According to Anderson, it will be an “informal evening, which won’t be very long, as they hope that people will come out and enjoy some fellowship, have a bit of fun and find out all about Rotary.”

And while the group is always looking for new members, it’s promised to be a communication event that answers questions people may have.

Anderson added they get a lot of requests from the community, a lot of which are quite similar, as they want residents to know they are able to assist with a wide variety of things.

“We want people to know that we’re here to help. We can give money to causes and we can supply bodies to volunteer for different things,” she said.

Such things included in the past are Canada Day events, the building of Parkland, the Kerry Vickar Centre and Habitat for Humanity, relationships with the North East Outreach and Support Services and the local Salvation Army and security at various local events.

Being a global organization, the group has also funded efforts in Guatemala, the Philippines and Nepal.

“We’re here to service above self for the betterment of mankind,” she said.

Anyone who would like to join is encouraged, as it is now ‘easier than ever.’

If people don’t have the time, however, donations are always welcome to help with scholarships.

“We also do a lot for students, we do a lot of scholarships… we receive donations and give them to different organizations and we sponsor events,” Anderson said.
